PULSAR DIGITAL
SERVO-CONTROLLER

The Servotest Pulsar digital servocontrol system offers high-performance DSP-based digital control for servohydraulic test and motion simulation. The operator interface is provided using a standard Microsoft Windows® 7 operator PC workstation running single or multiple screens. Connection to Pulsar via is a standard USB interface enabling easy updating of the PC workstation as required.

Building on the foundation established by Servotest's first-generation digital servocontroller, the DCS2000, Pulsar provides a powerful and flexible total control solution whether for a single-channel, multi-channel or multi-system configuration.

Pulsar employs state of the art real-time DSP-based digital servocontrol techniques to ensure optimum accuracy. Pulsar uses an innovative distributed architecture to maximise control signal fidelity by minimising the length of analogue runs for command, feed-back and data acquisition signals.

In a standard Pulsar configuration actuator node boxes are mounted on the actuators. These provide analogue signal connection and conditioning as well as 'local' DSP and conversion to digital data. The digital data is then transmitted via robust fibre-optic link cables back to the Pulsar hub where the main Pulsar DSP performs the complex processing often required for closed-loop control of multi-axis/multi-channel rigs. The fibre-optic link cables also provides DC power for the hub and an analogue interlock safety loop capability. Analogue nodes with BNC (or similar) signals connections are also available where multiple channels of analogue input (typically for data acquisition) and/or analogue output (typically for connection to an external data logger) are required; these also link back to the Pulsar hub via fibre-optic links cables.

One of the key benefits of using fibre-optic connections is that these are not susceptalbe to the electrical noise pick-up associated with long analogue cable runs. Control cabling routing is also significantly simplified which can be especially important for multi-channel rigs in somewhat hostile test environments.

The operator interface software has been developed using the Microsoft .Net® application framework and has been designed to be easy-to-use without limiting your control over the system.

For further information on the full Pulsar system please click to download the Pulsar brochure.

A single-box configuration of the Pulsar system is also available. Typically used in single-actuator applications this is known as Pulsar-1, please click to download the Pulsar-1 brochure.

For more information on the functionality and operation of each of the main Pulsar software modules please refer to the tutorials below. These run in an on-line web-browser but do require Adobe® Flash® functionality. Adobe® Flash® Player can be downloaded here - Adobe® Flash® Player download. However, please note that Flash® capability is not available on certain mobile devices. Alternatively the tutoraials can be downloaded as a .zip file for off-line use.
