Our Simulation Systems
Servotest has been involved in the design and manufacture of large-sale Multi-Axis Simulation Table (seismic MAST) systems since the 1980s. Research in this field provides civil and structural engineers with in valuable insights into one of Mother Nature's greatest threats and the means to mitigate her effects.
Early applications included the durability testing and seismic qualification of space vehicles, telecommunications equipment and major system components for power generation and transmission. Servotest has continuously collaborated with researchers and institutions operating at the leading edge of the seismic simulation research field.
This has led to substantial extension in the state-of-the-art to incorporate both large single-table systems and extremely versatile reconfigurable multi-table systems.
Recent projects have included a triple bi-axial table system at Fuzhou University in China suitable for testing large scale models of suspension bridges and a dual-table (expandable to quad-table) six degree-of-freedom system at Central South University in China with up to 45 metres separation between table centres for testing of very large structures & systems. Large single-table six degree-of-freedom systems have also been supplied to other leading institutisions in China, including Lanzhou and Kunming Universities.
All of the above systems incorporate Servotest's high-performance low-friction hydrostatic bearing actuator assemblies and backlash-free self-alinging bearings. The systems are controlled using the Servotest Pulsar digital servo-control platform which provides advanced DSP-based multi-channel real-time control capabilities. Together these deliver precision control of the table motions in x, y and z lateral directions simultaneously along with constraint or control of the pitch, roll and yaw rotational motions.
Independent or simultaneous control of motion in each of the six spatial degrees-of-freedom is possible to provide faithful reporoduction of the ground motions experiended during real-world seismic events. This allows the performance or survivability of test specimens, structures and/or designs to be assessed within a controlled laboratory environment.
In addition to earthquakes other forms of time-domain signal inputs can be reproduced, including random time histories, shock pulses and multi-channel sine sweeps. All of these can be created quickly and easily using Pulsar.
Servotest is able to offer training programmes and consultancy services worldwide to enable our customers to obtain maximum potential from their investment in large-scale systems of this type.
